The Private Reserve folks took another crack at this restoration. Just listened with headphones and the results are just wonderful, to my ears.

From Christopher Dyment's book, Conducting the Brahms Symphonies: "In conversation with the orchestra’s impresario, Walter Legge, Toscanini complained that, despite repeated attempts, he could never bring off the Third Symphony as he had heard Steinbach do – even though Legge thought his Philharmonia performance of that work the greatest performance of anything he had ever heard." High praise, indeed.
