Just listened with headphones and the results are just wonderful, to my ears. From Christopher Dyment's book, Conducting the Brahms Symphonies: "In conversation with the orchestra’s impresario, Walter Legge, Toscanini complained that, despite repeated attempts, he could never bring off the Third Symphony as he had heard Steinbach do – even though Legge thought his Philharmonia performance of that work the greatest performance of anything he had ever heard."
