Bruckner From the Archives review by John Quinn Posted by Federico on May 13, 2024, 11:41 am Mr. Quinn writes: That description makes me suspect that the Vienna Akademie Kammerchor was a pick-up ensemble. Actually, they don’t do a bad job at all. It boggles the mind that a presumably experienced reviewer could even contemplate writing these lines. This choir, formed by Ferdinand Grossmann of Vienna Boys Choir fame, made it into one of the most famous in its day, toured the globe and made a huge number of records for various labels, Vox and Westminster included. Is it too much to expect that, instead of writing the first thing that comes into one's head, a tiny amount of research is undertaken by the reviewer (easier then ever before thanks to the internet), to save the reader from having to endure sentences such as the above-quoted? It brings the general high standard of MusicWeb down to an unacceptably low level. You do not have to suspect: you can actually research and share the knowledge that you glean with your readers - imagine that for a novelty! Federico

As I indicated, I took an inference from the notes and it appears I was wrong to do so. I'll check what you have said and if my review was incorrect I will amend it. I would say, though, that no one from the label or otherwise connected with the release has been in touch to point this out. If I may say so, I wish you had been less intemperate in the way you expressed your criticism. You are right; information is more readily available on line than ever before - though not all of it is accurate, of course. My colleagues and I do our best to be accurate in what we write but with so many discs to appraise every month there is a limit to the amount of background research we can do for any one release. We do our best but I'm sure you'll agree that everyone makes mistakes from time to time.

We are unpaid, amateur music-lovers sharing our enthusiasms with like-minded people; being human, we occasionally slip up and invariably welcome being advised of any such occurrence, respond graciously and implement the necessary correction. All we ask, to borrow from Joel Gray's MC in the classic film "Cabaret", is "Ein bisschen Verständnis" - and some courtesy. But I doubt if that was ever considered as he venomously tapped away at the keyboard. By the tone and manner I imagine this is the work of an addict of anti-social media - sneering accusations and a lack of manners. Reviewers - ignore the OP's nonsense and continue with the good work. regards
