Yi Lin’s Daphnis not a world premiere Posted by Garry Broughton on January 24, 2025, 3:20 pm The “premiere mondiale de la version intergrale pour piano” of Ravel’s Daphnis & Chloe was recorded in the Salle Adyar (Paris) in April /May 2001 by the great French pianist Claire-Marie Le Guay for the Accord label(461 946-2) sound engineer Philippe Pelissier who managed to include the choral parts thanks to “la technique du re-recording”. Claire-Marie’s disc also includes the piano version of Petrouchka for which Rubinstein paid Stravinsky 5000 gold-francs.

From your message it appears that the wordless chorus parts were dubbed onto the Accord recording. Dominy Clements' review includes this phrase: "“you are likely to wonder how Ravel’s sumptuous and detailed orchestration – including a wordless chorus – can ever be approached with piano alone.” That suggests pretty clearly that no chorus is involved in the Yi Lin Jiang recording. I've checked with Dominy and that is the case. So, in their different ways, it seems that both that recording and the one by Claire-Marie Le Guay could fairly be described as premieres

So maybe we have two world premieres, one with and one without re-recording techniques. Previous Message I think we're talking about two different things here, Garry.
