In the film Summer Holiday she effects a voice that is smaller and sweeter, as befits Lily Miller. In the episode of Bewitched where she sings a bit of Gilbert and Sullivan, she uses a high-pitched and shrill style, for comic effect. In The Magnificent Ambersons, while singing along for "The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo" during the motor car excursion, her voice is thin and hesitant but with a smidgen of hope, like Fanny Minafer herself.
I don't know if we have any recordings of AM singing in her own full, true voice -- because she was always an actress first. It would have been nice to have an album of show tunes from her, where she lets go and sings at her own capacity. [To my knowledge her record albums were all spoken word.]
To finish off on a light note, here is a clip I made from a 1943 episode of Mayor of the Town, where AM and guest artist Lionel Stander sing the jingle for sponsor Rinso laundry detergent. She is singing in character as Marilly, so her voice is high-pitched and whiny. Download Here.
