My shoulder update Posted by Cindyh on 9/12/2025, 8:16 am I saw Dr Smith and got not good news. He thinks it is a torn but even with a a tear, the arthritis has gotten worse in the shoulder joint in the last 10 months and I’ve already had 2 surgeries to clean it out in the last 4 years SO the only option I have surgically is a shoulder replacement. No fun and not what I wanted to hear. I’ve been afraid of this for a while. He said a sling post operation for 2 weeks then no pool or lifting weight for 6-8 more. Then lots of physical therapy. He did an injection ( nerve block) to help with the pain if it works to try and last a few months and let me try and get some weight off. I want to feel better about my blood pressure being well controlled going into surgery. We had a family member on Johns side have a stroke last week in Gulf shores which really scares me. She has surgery today at 9 am and is again at stroke risk so we are praying for her then. She’s younger than I am and using a wheelchair right now. I checked and the reverse replacement is what they do when athletes injure their shoulders. One football quarterback got his hip crushed and they did a reverse hip replacement and he came back the next year to play and even plays pro now. I don't remember who had the reverse shoulder replacement so that I can look him up to see what he is doing now, but it was the first time I ever heard of it.

What I've done over the years is have someone but the baby in my lap. As the get older... they can climb up on your lap or snuggle close. It can work out. I am so sorry to hear about the stroke.

Posted by Delta on 9/12/2025, 11:26 am, in reply to "Im glad" Isn't a reverse replacement what sports players get on their shoulders that makes them able to rehab and get back on the field quicker? They are in rehab a month out from surgery, while with the regular surgery, they can't usually do PT until 6-8 weeks. I guess if I were going to have surgery, I would opt for the reverse surgery.

He said even with a reverse it’s several months of PT after surgery and sling time and either way you have the restrictions
