We don't realize what blessings those two things are unless they are taken away from us. I am pretty resilient, so I could use a dishpan in the sink to catch water when we washed our hands, and other things, and throw it outside. We had an office less than two miles away to use the toilet. I could use a camper toilet at night if we needed it, instead of driving two miles to the office. I could take sponge baths for a few days if needed or continue to go to my daughters, but it was so glorious to have a shower and wash my hair at the same time in my own bathroom, run a load of dishes in the dishwasher, run a load of laundry, and use the toilet and flush it. All pure luxury! We have had a glorious week of temperatures in the high 60 to low 80. It was especially nice that we weren't racing the rain or had a lot of water or even frozen ground to work with, getting the sewer replaced. Having a husband who can do things. We almost packed up our clothes and headed to the lake, and left everything until later this week or next, when people come back from their Christmas break (it is when contractors usually take their vacations because it is the slowest two weeks of the year, generally). My husband decided that he could do it, and we wouldn't have to go anywhere. It ended up costing us a little less than $1000. He and my son sat down and calculated the cost last night, and with the scope that it turned out to be, it would have cost well over $20,000.00 to have it done. I am also grateful that he hasn't gotten rid of his tractor yet. He has had numerous people make him offers, and I thought he was crazy not taking it after closing down his construction business. My daughter didn't break her ankle when she was on and off pulling the tractor up and backing it up while he sat behind it in the backhoe. The last time she used it at work, she broke her ankle when she got off. My husband wasn't hurt when he fell. Yesterday we had heavy fog until after noon. It caused alot of wetness on surfaces, including the light layer of dirt that had settled or been tracked onto the sidewalk. As he was walking on it he hit a slick spot and went down. He ended up with a bruised and skinned knee. I am grateful that is the worst of it.

He’s having a rough go of it Will clean sheets etc tomorrow and start preparing for surgery Got a new pair of brooks. It’s so hard to find good shoes I can wear after the ankle fusion. The final Countdown to surgery. I just want it behind me! All of you sweet friends.

I just hope that you don't get what he had. I love it when I find a new pair of shoes that are comfortable. I used to be able to wear about anything without problems. Now it is painful somewhere with so many of them. I hope the surgery is successful in all you need it to do!

It is wonderful to be able to do more cooking than I've been able to in years. My back gets a little tired standing for an hour or so in the kitchen but pain usually doesn't usually start until I'm almost done and it's at a minimal amount. Decided to work from home tomorrow. Found some prints I want for my office on sale. Now, I have to narrow them down. Sylvia Demers (probably spelled incorrectly).is an artist out of Quebec. Full of color and birds. Each piece has an inspiring title in French. Recycling

I hate that you had to go through so much to get there, but now that it is in the past, I hope that it continues to be less painful. The prints sound lovely. I love animals, especially birds and pastoral scenes.

My five… Posted by Cindy on 12/28/2025, 11:55 am, in reply to "Sunday gratitudes…" 1. The number on the scale is going DOWN! Sunday is now my weigh in day-but after just 2 days of being back on track I am down! Yay! 2. A nice visit/lunch at Jessica’s yesterday. They had burgers and 4 different types of hot dogs and had the pkgs near all the meat so we would know what each one was which was amazing as I could scan them and figure out what I wanted to eat. I had planned on having a burger (no bread) but when I scanned the burger it was 16 points!! Wowzers!!! So I got just a regular hot dog (no bun) for 5 points. I passed on the potato salad and opted for 1/2 cup of baked beans and two (halves) deviled eggs. 3. Feeling hopeful again. 4. Thinking more about retiring. Spending time with Ken this past week showed me what it could feel like. If we had more in savings I would just do it-but we just don’t have that much in savings and I don’t want to retire and then have to go back to work in a year. Still it’s nice to dream. One of these days. 5. A new year is approaching. Love that!

How thoughtful to put the pkgs out where you can calculate points. Just wonder what in the world was in that burger. I understand the thought of retiring, but I think you have a good handle on the idea of having to go back. Social Security does not go far these days. Here's a secret few people tell you about: retirement without a plan or something to do gets boring, and your body starts getting frail quickly. Start now developing hobbies that you have a passion for. Develop healthy habits, especially exercise, that you can carry into retirement. Set yourself up for a long, happy retirement.
