Quick Update Posted by Krista on 2/27/2026, 2:31 pm Sorry I have been missing! Dad is doing ok. Pain is manageable post op and he has started working with physio. First step today was to sit in chair for a couple of hours and we did that. They have no idea how long he will be there -- rehab unit at other hospital is an option or working at home with Extra Mural. They suggested getting some home care help for Paul but he'd never go for that. First concern for Dad is being able to get to the bathroom with a wheelchair. There is very little room to get around at home bathroom. So that may need a reno. One step at a time. Thanks for caring ladies!

Yes... it can be very difficult taking care of an elderly person at times. Consider what would be the best care for your dad to thrive. Also about the ability of any caregiver... no matter where.

A lot of older homes aren’t equipped for seniors. I am torn between whether I want to update a bathroom that is upstairs by the bedrooms or throw down some money to try to put a bathroom on the main level. We have two bathrooms in our house and one is upstairs and one is downstairs. And all the bedrooms are upstairs. Luckily it is a split level house and there are only 6 steps going up or 6 steps going down-but in 10 more years will we be able to navigate any stairs when I am 78 and Ken is 85?? Lots to consider.
