When posting messages that contain useful information please only use smilies at the start and end of the message to make it easier to copy it to the supplementary board. It is even more helpful if you post a copy of useful information on the supp board yourself.
I was diagnosed when I was 50, 31 years ago.
To be fair, understanding of Coeliac disease has only become more or less common knowledge over the last few years, I had never heard of it when I was diagnosed, nor did I know that some other family (cousins) members were sufferers, non of my siblings have it nor my children so whilst it is hereditary it is by no means certain that it will pass on, I'm sure my parents would have had no knowledge of what it was all about.
Try to look on the positive side Susie, it is widely understood these days and the availability of GF foods is beyond all comparison to how it was 30 years ago.
