better a bold line with mistakes than tentative lines with no character.

That's exactly how I see it. Most of the "mistakes" in FP sketches can be turned into part of light-value rendering. And in my own sketches, sometimes those "mistakes" ended up giving the sketch the punctuation of character that it needed.
