I did some careful soaking and a couple ultrasonic rideds (I suspened the pen, nib down, so it is only in the liquid just past the section). Then I sat down to use the heat gun sparingly. I did it off and on for about 10-15 minutes, and when it didn't budge I put it away and waited for another day.
Over about 3 weeks I worked ont he pen like this on alternate days. Never the little 'click' that it was letting go, just solidly in there. Finally one day, I was working on it and it went that 3$ too long or too hot - the barrel deformed. Not a lot, but now it wasn't the pristine pen I hoped, and - of course - the section is still in place.
I am very certain this pen, possibly a lower tier pen for them, had the section glued in place, as opposed to shellac. I know that is the case with at least some of the Teperite pens.
It took me days to stop being sad about the turn of events, and still bums me out. Sometimes it just plays out this way.
Cheers,
Jon
