How nice to have such a fine example of a pen that was pivotal in the history of writing implements. The price would have been steep at the time, as you say, the equivalent of about $180 in today’s dollars. That wouldn’t have been within reach for many, and yet I have read that this pen was quite a sensation and very popular when it was introduced.
Sometimes I try to imagine myself living in a different era, and so I wonder how I would have reacted to this modernistic pen if I had been an adult in the 1940s. Would I have wanted one? Would I have been willing to give up my fountain pen (or dip pen) for this? I certainly would have admired it.
Thanks for the nice post, and for giving me a chance to ponder my own quirky propensities. Me, still contemplating whether to get a smart phone…
