So Elisabeth wearing a smaller piece (also allowing for hair down instead of up) made for a younger look for the Duchess of Brabant fitting the occasion.
I wonder if it might have something to do with it being a ‘Gala B’ event? The Danish Queen did not wear her big diamond parure and the Danish Crown Princess did not wear her big ruby parure.
The birthday was not the birthday of the Crown Prince - but of the son of the Crown Prince
I agree John R, but this was the best showing of it so far. They must have laid if flatter on its frame or something, it looked more like a tiara this time. What I appreciate about this piece, whether on the neck or on the hair, is the apparent quality of the stones. They always appear very lively and clear.
The mystery is, why the young Duchess wouldn’t have worn her 18th birthday tiara on her second tiara outing. Maybe she didn’t like it? or maybe the Belgians have decided to all share tiaras now and that new one is at Mathilde’s disposal?
The Wolfers tiara always looks like a framed necklace. Whoever wears it. It never really convinces as a tiara (same goes for Amalia with the Sapphire necklace tiara) I think Elisabeth's own tiara is pretty wearable if some adjustments are made. Also the Dutch Sapphire necklace tiara needs a bit of work still to really qualify as a convincing tiara. The sides of the tiara need some additional stones so that it graduates down to the frame. Now it comes to a full and abrupt stop on the sides. A bit of work by the Court Jeweller would do wonders IMHO.
Lovely dress and great way to wear the tiara. Too bad she only had some smaller earrings to go with it.
I always feel sorry about how empty the Belgian jewel boxes are when they could have been so well provided for.
If you look at what Queen Elisabeth, Queen Astrid, princess Lilian, Queen Fabiola and Queen Paola had and join that with the pieces Marie-Jose inherited from her grandmother and brother you'd have a really amazing collection.
They still might need to add some amethysts and pink topaz just because they are the only country who can get away with it with the colour of their order.
Pincess Elisabeth wore a dress from a belgian desgner with a belgian historical tiara and our Sash , rarely seen on a Prncess.
The Duchess of Brabant was loaned a tiara. It looks like her mother let her wear the Wolfers tiara for the event.
Amalia in the small sapphire necklace tiara. Third tiara for three tiara events !
Her mother's Edwardian necklace-tiara would be appropriate worn as a necklace.
The turquoise bracelet as bandeau like her great-grandmother once did!
I would think it highly unlikely the Princess Isabella would loan her ‘aunt’ Benedikte’a diamond stars for her hair - or Princess Benedikte’a star and pearl tiara…
Lovely!
Princess Isabella could wear the diamond stars in her hair, just like young (then) princess Anne-Marie and also her daughter princess Alexia of Greece did.
