Errors in the books of both Field and Menkes have been identified here time and time again. I do believe that attempts to track down every piece hinted at by either author is a waste of time - because of the known errors. Both Munn and Roberts have cleared up some past problems, but not all. And those two are not free of errors either. We cannot solve or resolve what has never been published, reliably. --Previous Message-- : and Leslie Field made quite a few errors also. : The definitive books would have to be : Tiara's, A History of Splendour & The : Queen's Diamonds. : : --Previous Message-- : Although I am not an expert I feel that Suzy : Menkes got a lot incorrect in her books and : Miss Field told me herself Ms Menkes used : Miss Field's own research to revise her : later edition. : Whether the Empress Marie even had a tiara : in exile remains doubtful unless someone can : supply photographic evidence which would be : marvelous : --Previous Message-- : Dear all, : : The royal jewels by Suzy Menkes Page 53 : (Edition 1988, section Majestic Mary) : : : "The Empress Marie's superb sapphires - : two tiaras, a brooch and a pearl choker- : were inherited by the Queen. Princess : Michael of Kent has a large diamond brooch, : the Gloucesters a tiara and Princess : Margaret a sapphire" : : have you seen photos of the Empress Maria : wearing sapphire tiaras. We could therefore : find the two sapphire tiaras owned by Queen : Elizabeth II. : : It might be the same sapphire tiaras : mentionned by Leslies Field : : Franck : : : : :
