I am not totally convinced that Queen Alexandra wore mourning for the remainder of her life after the death of her son.
It is very difficult to gauge colours from black and white photographs; however, there are some portraits which show her in non-mourning colours. Below I have two links to the Royal Collection to illustrate this point.
If she wore only mourning colours why would she have had the oriental circlet re-set with rubies? Red has never been considered a mourning colour in European courts as far as I am aware.
