I find it rather unlikely that a tiara would go up the family tree and then jump to a family that is essentially unrelated. The tiara type was common around 1880 and onwards, that's why I thought the Patricia Ramsay connection makes it likely it is indeed the same tiara. The 7th Earl was a very colourful man (google Alistair Crowley & Tankerville), while Leonora Sophia was deeply involved in charity and the Salvation Army. They sent their son to a school in Boston, USA, instead of Eton, which caused a stir in society and the press, because they didn't want him to grow up an elitist. They didn't invest in the ancestral seat, Chillingham Castle, letting it become derelict. Lots of reasons for them to sell the tiara, in other words. I also found some reports of the 7th Earl's uncle sitting on family fortune and the possibility he wouldn't inherit a single thing. With the Swedish royals being so close because of Margaret of Connaught, a sale to them is possible. But it also is possible Carl Gustaf bought it at a UK jeweller in the 80's, perhaps even because of the history. I also wouldn't exclude the possibility the photo dated around 1912 is actually from an earlier date. Databases of historic photos often are wrong in their information.
