    Curious Coronets Archived Message

Posted by Brock on November 12, 2016, 5:05 pm, in reply to "Re: Clarification"

Indeed, the clarity of the picture is wonderful, but it brings up several questions about coronet usage. Was such use strictly a matter of preference? Despite the majority of the ladies donning theirs, including her daughter, the Countess of Strathmore is not wearing the coronet entitled to her.

Additionally, the Marquess of Carisbrooke is wearing not the coronet of a marquess, rather the coronet denoting him as a grandchild of a sovereign who is not a prince of the blood royal. While Alexandra of Fife is wearing the coronet entitled to her as the wife of a prince of the blood royal, her sister Maud is not wearing the female equivalent of the Marquess of Carisbrooke's coronet, as seen on his wife.

Further, was the "other grandchildren of the sovereign" coronet used by any others in 1953? The Earl and Countess of Harewood, for instance, wore the coronets of an Earl and Countess while Gerald Lascelles did not wear one at all.

: bought by the late Fürst Georg of
