Beth, I agree that they look like pieces of the sapphire necklace/corsage ornament. Thanks Arthur for finding the great close up photos of Princess Mary's wedding gifts - also of her wearing the emerald necklace (she really looked like the present Princess Royal didn't she?) As far as the emerald VAD tiara goes I am not surprised that she did not wear it - it looks very top-heavy & impractical - a bit like Queen Wilhelmina's sapphire tiara that was broken up.
--Previous Message-- : I wonder if Princess Mary, the Princess Royal : is wearing parts of the grand sapphire : necklace/corsage ornament as brooches in the : third photo Arthur posted? : : On Ursuala's site it is noted that the : individual sapphire elements are detachable : from the necklace and can be worn as : brooches. : http://royal-magazin.de/england/mary-lascelles-harewood/mary-imperial-sapphire-necklace.htm : : I suspect that (in Arthur's photo) the : Princess is wearing the central element in : the centre of her bodice and one of the : smaller elements on her left shoulder.
