I wonder if Princess Ingrid Alexandra wore the Esme Galaxy earrings she received to her 18th birthday from King Frederik & Queen Mary in this new photo:

Queen Mary was pictured leaving the Danish royal yacht Dannebrog for the gala banquet - she is wearing the pearl tiara. The gala banquet will begin at 8 pm

Queen Mary is wearing the pearl poiree tiara for the first time, no necklace but a diamond and pearl brooch
Queen Sonja in the emerald parure, tiara, earrings and a necklace - and a dress she first wore for Queen Margrethe´s silver wedding in 1992 (!)
Crown Princess Mette-Marit in the amethyst tiara, no necklace
Princess Astrid in turquoise tiara from Queen Maud and turquoise necklace from her mother Crown Princess Märtha.

I dont know. The same happened during the Dutch state visit. King Willem Alexander received the collar but did not wear it.

At this point I think it will never retire... perhaps the Queen sees it ia bit like a uniform... if she does not what to wear, then she knows she can always relay on her "uniform"

My understanding is that King Frederik was not upgraded with the Chain until the day after the banquet.

How accurate this is, I do not know.
But it would explain the omission.

The same might have happen for King W-A.

Orders are always exchanged in the beginning of a state visit - so everybody can wear their new orders at the first gala banquet... so I am sure the chain/collar was given in the beginning of day 1

Great to see Queen Mary wearing (part of) the Danish pearl parure. Of course, it was quite expected, and so not much of a surprise, that she now wears the jewels reserved for the Queen, but the pearl drop tiara really suits her.

I am a bit disappointed that she did not wear the necklace and the corsage brooch of the parure, she would have looked splendidly regal with the full parure - yet without overshadowing Queen Sonja and her equally-splendid Bernadotte emeralds (and her almost as much historic salmon dress!

)

The website of the Royal Family confirms the same when announcing that the Collar of the Order of St Olav was conferred to King Frederik on 14th May. Also, when looking at the photo from the gift exchange it is possible to spot the Collar in its case at the right of the photo:

Lovely photos and I definitely agree that the Pearl tiara really fits Queen Mary. Seeing her leaving the Danish Royal Yacht was such a "wow" moment!

Is Mette-Marit wearing Princess Ingrid Alexandra's Victoria and Albert bracelet again?

The collar of the Order of St. Olav is very seldome worn. I believe even King Harald and Crown Prince Haakon wear it only for the opening of the Storting.
And if i recall it right it was also given to King Willem-Alexander a few years ago but he did not wear it for the State Banquet

This is actually something that irks me somewhat. The Collar was frequently used in the past, for instance when the King wore other countries' Orders at gala events (or even just formal events like the welcoming ceremonies at the beginning of a State Visit). Fair enough, it was before the Order of Merit was founded. But I still think it would look really impressive if the Collar of the Order of St Olav would be worn together with say the Sash of the Order of the Elephant AND the Neck-tie of the Order of Merit (if needs must be).

I just think it is a bit "silly" to gift somebody the Collar knowing that they will never "be allowed" (able) to wear it. Actually, when Harald presented King Willem-Alexander with the Collar and the latter asked when it was worn King Harald jokingly said "I don't know" (me paraphrasing) "I only wear it at the Opening of the Parliament".

Yes indeed! One can see it peeking out under The Crown Princess’ sleeve. I wonder how Princess Astrid, a proud descendant of V&A, might feel that her special gift to Princess Ingrid Alexandra has been worn twice now by The Crown Princess!

I don't think Princess Astrid minded the bracelet being worn on this important State Visit, and since (sadly) Princess Ingrid Alexandra did not attend it must have been ok that it was worn by the Princess' mother. When it showed up on Mette-Marit's arm in Denmark at the entry to the banquet for the 18th birthday of Crown Prince Christian (and then suddenly disappeared just a few minutes later) I must admit that I was a bit surprised since Princess Ingrid Alexandra was herself attending that same banquet. Whether Princess Astrid thought the same though I cannot say

Perish the thought!

However, it does seem like Queen Mary are more interested in jewels, both new (she has bought some significant pieces herself even) and historical pieces. Even though I am still not convinced about the changes made to the Ruby tiara, the other changes she made to the parure mean that she will be able to actually wear it more often and in different constallations.

So I think that we don't have to "worry" about Queen Mary. Not so sure about her husband though and the way the monarchy is headed when it comes to keeping up the tradition of glittering celebrations of those special occasions in the life of the Royal Family that we were used to under the reign of Queen Margrethe.

I do hope we will get to see Princess Ingrid Alexandra wearing it soon too! Maybe for the next State Banquet in Oslo. Or on a new official potrait.
