Queen Camilla at the Diplomatic Reception

Queen Camilla is wearing the the late Queen’s Five Aquamarine Tiara for the Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace tonight! The Five Aquamarine Tiara was only worn once by the Queen in Canada in 1970, but was often worn by the Duchess of Edinburgh in recent years.

I think this tiara should be left to be worn by the younger members of the family. When you know what is in the vault just waiting to be worn - somehow I am a little disappointed in this tiara on HM.

Aesthetically speaking, the tiara looks beautiful on Queen Camilla. It just sits really well on her head. The aquamarines are really striking with her dress, albeit the jewels are probably the least valuable of which she has at her disposal. Previous Message I think this tiara should be left to be worn by the younger members of the family. I agree that the tiara looks surprisingly well on her but would improve when lowering the elements and removing the fork in the middle. This tiara is light compared to most other pieces and probably more comfortable to wear. I am sure that’s an important reason for choosing this tiara and not the hideous and heavy Brazilian Aquamarine Tiara. I have to say I have been underwhelmed by HM’s choices, since receiving full access to the royal vault. While I love to see her selections, and do enjoy that the pieces seem to be more available to other family members than the previous reign, I have yet to be blown away. It is all a matter of personal preference, however and I am sure comfort does come into play as mentioned by another poster. Previous Message Is it odd/surprising that the Queen is not wearing the QEII order?

I strongly suspect this is Charles and Camilla’s way of focusing attention now on their own reign, instead of looking back to the past. And why not? It has been such a long wait for him to succeed, and his adoring wife is obviously so proud of him. Perhaps this will become the new House custom, similar to Scandinavia, where the only family order worn is that of the current sovereign. Less sentimental and more forward looking is the way to go for the monarchy and they are embracing it. I think comfort is a major consideration but also appearance. Not all tiaras are pleasant to wear or suited for a person. She had some difficulty balancing the huge ruby piece although it did suit her. She carried the Girls of GB tiara beautifully. But it can also be the other way around: comfortable but not very pleasing to the eye and it can be both and would explain why some pieces will be worn often or remain in the vault or loaned to others. It has nothing to do with pieces being associated with QEII. The Royal Couple have clearly moved on and are not that sentimental, others might want to take their cue.
