HM Queen Mathilde is wearing her Laurel Leaf Tiara wich was a present from the Belgian aristocrats in 1999 on occasion of the wedding with the then Duke of Brabant.

True, but we can’t expect anything else. At least all Mathilde’s tiaras are adaptable as necklaces as well, for a jewel-poor queen it gives her some options at least. I suppose Queen Paola will never release the Art Deco bandeau of Queen Elisabeth to her daughter in law, and her appearance in it during her wedding will be her last and only. that would have been amazing, to see Mathilde blazing in red (ruby? paste?) stones in that wonderfully adaptable piece of jewelry. I hope whichever Spanish relative Queen Fabiola bequeathed it to enjoys seeing it glitter in its velvet cassette, never to be worn. She could have given it to her granddaughter on her 18th birthday but she hasn't. It seems she prefers to keep it herself. At least now she still has something she can lent to her granddaughters or spouses of her grandsons for their wedding. Fair enough but it would be nice if ultimately it can go to the mainline. I did not intend to criticize The Queens look in generel. I think the earrings are lovely themselves. But if you lack jewellery one tend to use what is in the casket. And just maybe sometimes one should not and perhaps create a more simple but effective look by not wearing something or maybe use stud Pearl earrings. Mathilde has been buying a few. smaller pieces but so far only the tiara for the Duchess of Brabant. With her limited pieces I think she and Philippe will buy three other tiaras for their younger daughter and two daughters-in-law. It's a shame they did not buy the Spanish wedding gift tiara and the aquamarine pieces of queen Fabiola or the pearl Beauharnais tiara and the turquoise Demi parure when Maria Gabriella of Savoy put those up for auction. The Belgians could also invest in an amethysts to go with the Empire tiara. Replace the nine diamonds with nine amethysts and add earrings, a necklace, a brooch, bracelet(s) and a ring and they would have an amazing set. It seems the Royal couple do not want to do so or have not inherited a major part of King Boudewijn's fortune. In that case they simply might not be able to buy much. King Baudouin never gave a jewel to his sister or to his nieces. When Queen Elisabeth passed away King Baudouin never asked her to give the Cartier tiara to his wife. The late Queen prefered to give it to her Son Leopold III, whose wife wore it only once abroad and sold it back to Cartier Queen Marie José took her Mother's jewels and her daughter Marie Gabrielle sold them instead of The Giving them back to the main House. King Baudouin gave aquamarines to his wife Queen Fabiola, her favourite stone. And Fabiola gave the waterfall Brooch , she wore once to Princes Mathilde and her Wolfers tiara to Queen Mathilde and others such as a ruby bracelet, pearl earrings and .. I believe the family is actually not that wealthy but they are frugal at the same time, except for Mathilde perhaps. She has made Natan a fortune and seems to enjoy jewellery but has only acquired relatively modest pieces. Leopold II did not leave a huge fortune to his daughters or his successor. Boudewijn reportedly was quite wealthy but he and Fabiola were also very religious. I had hoped a major part of their wealth would have gone to Philippe and Mathilde but that may not have been the case. Marie inherited Stephanie de Beauharnais' gold and pearl tiara and gave it to her granddaughter. Albert I and Elisabeth only added the earrings. The turquoise demi-parure was also from Marie. I was informed that large sums were bequeathed to various (RC) charities and organisations by both Baudouin and Fabiola. Albert and Paola are not very wealthy and neither are Philip and Mathilde. Albert complained about his income a few years ago with the Belgian Government but nothing came out of it. We all know that Laurent has been having financial problems for years. Fortunately for Astrid, Lorenz had a successful career. New jewels that were bought like Elizabeth's tiara are not top quality Edwardian Era pieces. True the Leuchtenberg diamond tiara was bought by Albert I and Elisabeth for Charles, count of Flanders. The bad blood between Charles and his older brother Leopold III and little to no contact between the Count and his nephews Boudewijn and Albert II resulted in the piece going to his sister. Such a shame because it would have been perfect as the main tiara for a Duchess of Brabant. Light, beautiful but still impressive.
