Re: Any 'Ol Halloween Haunts this year?
Yeah, I have seen Blair Witch. I am a movie buff across the board, including horror but my tastes lean toward atomspheric films and leaving most of the scares to the imagination of the viewer. I thought Blair Witch did a great job of this. The night time scenes were very intense and scary. I have been in the woods at night and the thought of being lost out there and stalked by an unseen presence...well..it just doesn't get much scarier of a setup than that. It seems like the ending is always portrayed in a positive light more often than not but I too was a little let down. For this instance, I felt like all of the movie's build up led to a need for just a brief glimpse of some horrific mind burning image of the witch doing the deeds and then a fade to black. You wanted to get some image of what it was! If you want another suggestion for a great atmospheric film with an evil presence which appears in the film only 4 or 5 times/scenes try the "Woman In Black" (1989) version. It is a good chiller.
