The Mayberry Grand: Western Comments

I recently watched Little Big Man (1970) for the first time. I had seen clips on TCM and was expecting a high quality viewing experience. Overall it was a good film and a positive watch but not one that I would want a repeat viewing of anytime soon. I knew the film had some comedy elements to it but I did not care for the comedy in this film. It was almost a spoof at times, especially during his "gunfighter period". I thought the film was at its best when it portrayed the doomed plight of the "human beings" and the scenes of tragedy. Could have been epic with a more serious tone overall. Just ok for me.

My other comment is on Randolph Scott westerns. I really enjoyed the time spent when I got into Scott with his Budd Boetticher westerns as well as "Ride The High Country". These were fine westerns. Over time I have explored many other Scott westerns and have found some to be pretty darn good as well such as "Ten Wanted Men" but with that said...man did he ever star in some crappy westerns as well. I recently watched "Colt .45" & "Fort Worth" and thought they were absolutely terrible! Corn and cheese with wooden acting. I'm not sure if I want to get too much deeper into his catalog after viewing these gems. Anyone know of another serious well acted Scott western worth viewing?
