Wow, I was surprised to see you say that was the first time you'd ever seen "The Wonder Years"! The show is a real treasure! I have watched the entire series and I highly recommend you try to find time to watch it. The narration is a big part of what the series is and you'd get used to it,
As far as "The Walton's episode "The Spirit"...yeah I'd skip it. It takes place more toward the end of the series without many of the staple characters in the show's early seasons.
I have not watched a lot of Christmas stuff. I did watch the film "HOLIDAY INN" with Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. I have never been a big fan of musicals but I liked it way better than I thought I would. Nice film to get lost in.
I also watched "SINCE YOU WENT AWAY" with Claudette Colbert and Joseph Cotton. It only has Christmas scenes in the last 10 minutes of the movie and it clocks in around 3 hours! I thought the first hour was pretty good but beyond that I became very bored with the "drama" of it. Not one I'd want to re-visit.
Today, I pulled out my Honeymooners stuff, to watch "Twas The Night Before Christmas" and decided to continue my craving and watch two versions of "Santa & The Bookies". I like the earlier version slightly better. Seems like it had more energy. I really yearn for the simpler times of Christmas, watching the Kramdens & Nortons exchange gifts with many friends and neighbors reminds me of how things used to be. Technology and social media "show and tell" has completely replaced visiting and neighborly communication.
Probably won't watch much else. Want to catch a Happy Days season 2 Christmas episode on the tube here in a bit and then...maybe an annual showing of "It's A Wonderful Life".
