I credit 'Song of Bernadette' for giving me the love and appreciation of old classic films. I was on the couch one Sunday morning back in the early 80s watching TV and nursing a big head from the night before. The TV was on Ted Turner's super station channel, WTBS, which showed classic films every Sunday morning. Up to that point, I had avoided old B & W movies like the plague but was in too much pain to get up and change the channel (no remote back then.)
'Bernadette' was the featured film and I was just in awe at the end. It became a regular routine for me on Sunday mornings and I've been a major fan of the old films ever since. I read once that one of the prime reasons Ted Turner (a serious film buff) bought WTBS back in 1970, was so he could provide an outlet for these great movies to be seen and not forgotten. I certainly owe him a debt of gratitude. Thanks Ted! He's still with us BTW; age 87.
