He chose to use the Mighty Avengers title for a purpose OTHER THAN writing Mighty Avengers stories. It's actually quite unheard of, what he's doing with these titles.
It's as though he knows that Marvel will let him do whatever he wants, so he just nabs any title they'll give him and uses it however he pleases. If they offer him a Spider-Man title, but he really wants to write a Man-Thing series, he'll just take the Spider-Man book and use it to write his Man-Thing stories. Are they going to stop him? Probably not, if his Mighty Avengers But Not Really is any indication.
See, normally when there is a big crossover thing like this, each tie-in book is used to show what the title character/team is doing during the event. Like when Wonder Man had the Infinity War and Galactic Storm issues. The issues showcased what Simon was doing during the events. If Jones had the hubris of Bendis, Simon would have been absent from his own book and the tie-ins would have been all about some random Shi'ar soldier or something.
The more I think about it, the more absurd it seems.
