I would think itís a huge mistake to give him another name. Wonder Man doesnít seem dorky to me and I can think of a dozen names used by both heroes and villains currently that sound way worse.
Wonder Man, Man of Wonders Wondy, Hollywood, The Tinsel Town Avenger all of these are Simon Williams and I really donít see any need to change his super hero name anymore than I see a need to change Batmanís name. To me the name fits because he is a man of wonders and miraculous feats. His ability to come back from the dead alone earns him that title let alone all the super powers he has from the ionic energy.
I just wish someone would start using the character to his fullest potential again and not relegate him to being the default strong guy that pops up in the background of an Avengers cameo. Donít get me wrong, I love that heís being included in a lot more titles, but very few seem to use him for anything but the strong dude that gets slapped around during the fight scene.
Gerard Jones, despite getting a few thing wrong in the series, did a lot towards making Wonder Man more of a proactive Superman type and Kurt Busiek carried that on in some form or another in his run on Avengers. Weíve gotten precious little of that in the current Mighty Avengers series which I thought started out with a lot of promise but hasnít done much of anything with him since Secret Invasion started.
So really, when I get right down to it Iím more worried about Wonder Man being used to his potential as a character rather than what he could be or should be called.
