Re: Paul Corfield Godfrey's Wagner - Träume review
I have no score at hand - I gathered the text from the Bayreuth Festival official libretto online. I merely deduced from the latter that some kind of confusion had been introduced into the score you consulted, in which the Großvaterstuhl appears as a musical instruction. Anyway, I trust that your concern about a possible Großvaterstil has now abated...Cheers Martin Previous Message My copy of the score is a reprint of the 1843 original version, which certainly does not contain the more substantial scenic instructions cited by M J Walker (possibly from Wagner's later revised score?) - to whom my thanks. At all events I was really making the point that very few sopranos seem to manage to encompass the idea of 'dreamily' that the more extended direction specifically enjoins on the singer - and that Ms Gleich achieves so successfully.
