I saw Hovhaness when he came to London to conduct his Odysseus Symphony (the world-premiere I believe) - a very tall, long-limbed man whose arms seemed to stretch out right over the orchestra as he conducted ! I suppose his best-known piece is Mysterious Mountain, the Reiner recording of which I've owned, in various formats, for over fifty years. A lovely work.
