The commissioned text for Helgoland is dated, although Bruckner nevertheless writes magnificent, fortissimo interjections of praise to God Almighty.
German musicologist Alfred Orel addressed the difficulties of putting on performances of Helgoland by leaving the orchestration untouched, but replacing the Silberstein text with a new text patterned after the Psalms and by changing the choral parts to an easier SATB, rather than the original's TTBB. This is something that I would very much like to hear, also!
