P.S. on Boult and Mahler! Michael Kennedy notes that Boult conducted most of the Mahler symphonies plus the Adagio of the Tenth and ‘Das Lied’. In a five month period from September 1947 to January 1948 he gave Nos.3, 4, 5 and 7 (Elizabeth Schumann in No.4) and Kennedy comments: ‘Many another conductor would have cried from the publicity office “Look what I’m doing for Mahler here!” Boult just conducted it.’
