Until about five years ago, Queen Silvia reserved the Braganca tiara to be worn only for one single occasion: The welcoming state banquet for foreign royal Heads of State who paid a state visit to Sweden.
For the first seven years as Queen Consort, she wore the Braganca tiara only for official portraits; the first time it was actually seen in public was the state dinner given for Queen Elizabeth II during her 1983 state visit (see below).
