I think the second smaller piece may have been her's. So far we've never seen it reappear. That might mean not favorite son Bernhard but her younger son Aschwin inherited it. I don't think he and his wife Simone attended any tiara-events after Armgard's death.
--Previous Message-- : Armgard with (pearl) tiaras: : : : : 1966 and 1962 : : Gahetna : : --Previous Message-- : Both princess Armgard and princess Simone : (the : wife of Bernhard's brother Aschwin) wore : tiara's belonging to queen Juliana during : some of the festivities. : Im not sure if Armgard owned a tiara : herself. If she did the small one she wore : for the silver wedding celebrations of : Juliana and Bernhard is the most likely : candidate (that tiara or parts of it were : never seen on Dutch royals). : As we have seen in other countries loaning a : piece to a close relative isn't unusual and : still happens (think of Queen Margrethe : loaning her turquoise tiara to her niece : Theodora for the recent Ruby jubilee). : : As for jewels belonging to Armgard, she had : a number of pearl pieces and she often wore : drop earrings with round pearls. We have : seen princess Margriet and some of her : daughters-in-law wearing them or similar : sets. : : The Lippe-Biesterfeld branch of Bernhard : wasn't exactly rich and did not attend state : events until he married the Dutch heiress. : So there had been no need for tiara's. : I don't know if or what tiara Armgard wore : for the celebrations surrounding her son's : wedding. The weddingday itself no tiara's : were worn. But on the eve there was a : concert. : : --Previous Message-- : Great Pictures as always, Tamara. : Hans raised a valid question although I do : not believe there's a satisfactory answer : available yet. I agree Queen Sophie's : Fleurons Coronet base does not match the : current Pearl Button Tiara. The garland : motif is similar but other than that? : Perhaps the precious metal and stones were : used to create a new tiara but that's as far : as I would like to go with this tiara. It's : beyond recognition. : : : : At the same time I must mention that at the : time of Maxima's wedding her tiara was : described as being a composite of parts from : Queen Wilhelmina, Queen Emma and Queen : Sophie. Well the stars were certainly from : Queen Emma. But that leaves only the : frame.... : : Also the diamond and pearl leaf brooch which : some claim to be a remnant (Diamond Fleuron) : of that same tiara was clealry a brooch to : begin with that belonged to the same Queen : as can clearly be seen in other portraits. : : Same story with the (Antique) Poire Pearl : Tiara which some have described as a : remnanet of Queen Anna's Poire Pearl : Coronet. Not a match there either. Clearly a : different piece all together, except perhaps : for some of the pearls and as a source of : inspiration. : : But what is the provenance then? Good : question. : : Interesting theory about Princess Armgard. : She must have owned some jewels among which : the odd tiara. Perhaps acquired by her son? : In any case she was photographed at the : silver wedding festivities in 1962 with a : diamond and pearl tiara (but clearly : different to the Pearl Button one). Princess : Armgard must have owned quite some pearl : jewellery as she was always photographed : with lots of pearl necklaces etc. : : Unfortunately there's too little or reliable : information on a great many pieces. If : only..... : : : : : --Previous Message-- : Dear Marianne, : : Thankx for your information & photo's, : but the tiara I'm talking about is not the : emerald tiara (now sometimes uses with : pearls) but the pearl button tiara wich : Margriet wore at her wedding & Beatrix : wore at her inauguration. : : Sorry if my question was not clear : : : : : : : :
