Indeed no pearl tiara while she did wear lot's of pearls. In comparison with other Royal Houses at the time there are so few pictures taken (or at least published) of Queen Emma as Queen Consort and Regent in full gala or with her jewellery in general for that matter. She was always so soberly dressed, even when her husband was still alive. If you make a list of all the jewels that belonged to her it's pretty impressive yet we don't have photo's of her using them. Such a pity.
--Previous Message-- : I have been on the hunt for a good pic of her : but so far not come up with one. : : Surprising that Emma did not have any pearl : tiara's after 1890. As a widow she still : occasionally wore tiara's but used the three : well known ones that still form the basis of : the Dutch queen's collection. : : She wore the Saphire parure for Wilhelmina's : inauguration. The diamond floral tiara with : stars for Wilhelmina's wedding and there are : pictures of her posing in Soestdijk wearing : the Ruby parure. : : : --Previous Message-- : Actually, before 1897 she had 4: the tiara : from the Van Kempen Parure, which was later : (partly) broken up. : : : : If only we had a good close up picture of : Emma at the Silver Wedding of her : daughter... : : : : --Previous Message-- : We might, to the best of my knowledge Emma : had : only three tiara's: : : The Ruby parure : the Saphire parure : the floral diamond tiara (with or without : stars) in combination with the diamond : weddinggift rivière and stomacher. : : She is wearing the diamond stomacher. Could : she have added the roses her husband gave : her and her granddaughter wore for her : wedding?? : : --Previous Message-- : That's what I thought as well. Do we finally : have a Dutch mystery tiara for a change?! : Speaking of which I would like to consider : an other mystery tiara of sorts as a : possible match with Armgard's. Queen Emma's : wearing a delicate tiara (with pearls?) at : the 1926 festivities for the Silver wedding : of Queen Wilhelmina. Unfortunately the : quality of the photo is not great... Any : better ones out there? : : : : Geheugen van Nederland : : : --Previous Message-- : I don't think this Abel-Smith piece is what : Armgard wore in 1962. The English piece is : bigger with more substantial diamonds and : Armgard's tiara had pearls and this tiara : hasn't. : : --Previous Message-- : Interesting. Thanks for this new : information. : Perhaps I was mistaken but I thought Armgard : was wearing a tiara mounted with diamonds : and pearls in 1962... : : --Previous Message-- : Picture of Lady May Abel-Smith. : She wears the tiara that Armgard wore at the : 1962 festivities for her sons silver : wedding. : It was on loan to her for the evening. : : I hope you all will forgive me for not : revealing my sources. But I can reveal that : the picture comes from this wonderful book: : Relatively Royal by Robert Golden! : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
