OOPS - it beat me to the post! As Jinja has suggested, those bands could have been a standard type of design used at the time.
I have been thinking that the wedding gifts to Princess May (Queen Mary) which are designated tiara/necklace or necklace/tiara might have been supplied with such a band. With band, the piece would be more rigid as a tiara. Without the band, the piece would be more flexible as a necklace. Here is the coronet pic. The coronet does not appear to include the band. EDIT: see next for a better detailed pic.
