Thank you Carlo for your comments which make me want to add the following which brings to mind some descendants we know today ! Princess Victoria of Hesse (Marchioness of Milford Haven) with her greatgrandson Ludwig Ernst Andreas of Hesse. Part of caption from Queen Victoria's Family by Charlotte Zeepvat: “ She saw her family through a series of tragedies which started when she was still a child, never losing her positive outlook and interest in life. 'I should have been the man of the family', was her own opinion, and Meriel Buchanan, who knew the Hesse family well, added: 'it is true that her lack of personal vanity, her firm handshake, her direct, sometimes abrupt, manner, gave an almost masculine impression. She was however a woman whose absolute integrity seemed to shine out of her bright blue eyes, whose clear-reasoning brain was remarkable, whose honesty and singleness of purpose made one feel that one could never tell a lie or indulge in subterfuge or evasion, a woman who had faced the many sorrows life brought her with unflinching courage, for whom it was possible to feel nothing but respect and admiration.' “ --Previous Message-- : There are two comments I would like to make on : Princess Victoria of Hesse as a person and : about her jewels: : 1) Princess Victoria was the one who : travelled as far as Beijing (China) to : identify her sister Grand Duchess Ella's : poor remains after she was killed by the : Bolsheviks in 1918. After another long : journey, Princess Victoria was present when : her sister's remains were interred in : Jerusalem. : : 2)Concerning the jewels, Princess Viktoria's : were not the only Hessian jewels to : disappear. Also the jewels of the main line : of the Hesse family were stolen during World : War II. Another cousin of Princess : Victoria's lost her jewels too in Russia: HM : Queen Marie of Romania.
