The criticisms are very remote. The only state funding is 350.000 Euro and that is peanuts for a country which is the wealthiest memberstate of the European Union. In his interview with Wort.Lu the Hereditary Grand Duke also pointed out that a very large part of the guests are not known by them but nevertheless attend their wedding. It is about representation and as future head of state the Luxembourg Government expects this public display from the Prince. So it is, in his eyes, logical that the State takes a part of the costs (mainly security and accomodation for foreign dignitaries) for it's account. I can go along with this. If the wedding was no State Event, maybe the Hereditary Grand Duke was happy with a wedding ceremony at the Château d'Anvaing (his bride's ancestral home) or at Fischbach or Berg Castle.
