    Re: Sapphire Tiara Archived Message

I had not, until recently realised that this tiara had its start as a historical necklace that HM purchased. Can anyone fill me in on the full story of its provenence?

: I may be an exception: though I think the
: design it's not the most beautiful and the
: tiara is not one of my favourites, I think
: it wouldn't look better in its original
    : necklace form.
    :
: In the end, I think it was a great idea to
: buy this piece and match it with the other
    : sapphires of the 'demi-parure'. It's even
: nicer when we see the British RF doesn't
: possess to many grand tiaras nor complete
    : parures.
    :
: And rather curious the tiara is now worn by
: a member of the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha
    : dynasty!

: Completely agree with you Boris!
    :
: Although the colour of the stones matches
: perfectly the ones of the George VI saphire
: set, the style and design of the
: necklace/tiara clashes completely with it...
: not my favourite of HM's tiaras.
    :
: I believe HM's idea was to form a parure by
: adding a tiara to her fabulous saphire set,
: but when I look at these pieces I see
: diferent styles saphire jewels worn
: together...Not the best of choices of a
: necklace to be turned into a tiara, in my
    : opinion of course...
    :
: A completely opposite example are the Nassau
: pearls from Denmark... although not made as
: a parure initially, they do match perfectly
: in their style, looking just perfect.

: I'm afraid I never really liked this
: particular tiara as I continue to see a
: beautiful 19th century swag necklace
: unfortunately turned upside down, and firmly
: fixed where it should swing freely instead.

: I agree. One of the best examples of a
: beautiful conversion from a necklace to a
    : tiara. Lovely piece.

: Does anyone have more picture of this tiara?
    :
: I quite like this tiara because of the
: simplicity and it goes with with the
    : sapphire collection.
