The interesting active thread about Princess Margaret's tiara made me think of royal family orders worn by ladies.
In the photos of Princess Margaret (and indeed, and modern royal lady) the family orders have a 'folded napkin' type of effect. The jewels themselves are lovely but the ribbons take up more real estate on the breast of the gown. I just want to contrast this to how royal ladies wore their orders in the past. The ribbons appeared to be smaller, and the orders were clustered in a glorious jumble on the breast. They took up less room, but were still fascinating and sparkly. In my opinion, it is a more successful look.
