Most royals probably have a set of black clothes just in case. Though they rarely need as many outfits as they do for state visits.
It is not the first such occasion for the Swedish royals, though.
When Queen Ingrid of Denmark died in November 2000, the King of Sweden ordered court mourning, but did not cancel a scheduled state visit to Bulgaria.
Thus Queen Silvia wore black or black/white throughout the visit, including for the gala.
