I have to agree that the mantle looked a bit odd on the King. Much better than I feared but still it looked odd and stiff because of the way it was attached: as we now know straps through the shoulder seems of the jacket around his arms and shoulders. As predicted by many the cut of the mantle is too feminine after three alterations and the lenghth was a problem for such a tall man as the King. I would have opted for a draped mantle on the chair if he was wearing a uniform but since he only had his evening suit I understand the choice for the mantle. All considered I was impressed with what I saw. The Dutch standards were raised for a change and that's rare.

: I agree that the mantle is in a female
    : style.
: I thought it would have looked better with
: an ermine cape as often worn by men.
: But if it so old and decrepit then perhaps
: it had better be simply draped somewhere
    : next time.

: Okay, now you say it. We are all human, the
: mistakes were not disastrous. My only
: complaint was the old ermine mantle which
: looked ridiculous. On beforehand I did send
: a picture to the Royal House Services of
: King Carl XVI Gustaf with his ermine mantle
: draped on the throne and suggested the King
    : would do the same.
    :
: The response was that the Royal House
: Service was thankful for the input and would
: bring the recommendation into consideration.
: Sadly, for sime mysterious reasons, the King
: decided to wear the old, stiff and too
: feminine mantle. I hope in thirtysomething
: years Queen Catharina-Amalia will decide
: that the ermine is so old that it can only
: be laid on the throne, at best.
    :
: The Queen, wearing the Mellerio Sapphire
: Diadem in adapted version compensated more
    : than enough.
