    Family Foundation! Archived Message

I understand your concern however technically the jewels are in a family foundation. The Jewels are first and foremost at the disposal of the monarch (spouse) but Queen Juliana's daughters formally all have equal rights.

But I have said this before there seems to be a very strict picking order. Now it is:
    1. Queen Maxima (as spouse to the King)
    2. Princess Beatrix (who can deny the lady anything!)
    3. Princess Irene (although she never uses her right)
    4. Princess Margriet (silent force!)
    5. Princess Christina (although she never uses her right)
    6. Princess Laurentien (as spouse of Prince Constantijn, should go for it more often)
    7. Princess Mabel (as spouse of Prince Friso, loves big diamonds)
    8. Princess Maria Carolina (somehow she must be a family favorite)
    9. Princess Annemarie (as spouse of Prince Carlos she's almost changing spots with her sister in law, has been wearing the odd thing now)
and than the rest scrambles for the odd earring or brooch, at best.

And I agree that Queen Beatrix especially was very generous in allowing Princess Maxima almost carte blanche in her family's trousseau. But if it had not been for Beatrix and Maxima (and Margriet who I somehow believe is instrumental in cleaning up the vaults) we would not have seen dozens of pieces that were left in the dark for ages. And there's still more to come.

At least these pieces get to see daylight! And appreciated by people. How many treasures are locked away for decades? Too many if you ask me. For the wrong reasons sometimes.

: In my opinion the Queen has a every right to
: share what's in her jewelry box. Ad the fact
: that Queen Beatrix lent them to her family
: shows that she is very open with her
: extended family. She can't wear everything
: so why not let other members of the family
    : show it off.

: I know that it has already been said, but in
: my opinion, I do not agree with the
: excessive generosity shown since the time of
: Queen Juliana, and then by her daughter, now
: Princess Beatrix, to allow the younger and
: minor members of the RF to wear too
: important jewels from the Royal collections.
: Looking at the photos in the fantastic web
: site on the Dutch Royal jewels, I saw
    : Princess Irene's daughter, or
    : daughter-in-law, wearing important brooches
: or other jewels, also worn by the Queen
    : herself.
: In other words, in my opinion there are not
: enough jewels worn exclusively by the
: reigning Queen, or now Queen consort.
: I mean, really, the jewel collection is so
: vast that I cannot see jewels from the
: emeralds parure or Peacock ruby set worn by
: the Bourbon-Parme princesses. Or important
: diamonds stomachers worn by Princesses
    : Laurentien or Mabel.
: Maybe I compare too much the Dutch Queen
: with QEII, who does not give away easily her
: jewels, except some items lent to the
: Countess of Wessex when she attends Royal
: ceremonies with her husband, representing
    : the Queen.
: As I said, this is only my opinion.
