I was very excited about the release of this book, but I felt dissapointed when I received it. It's (suposedly) a book about jewels. Well, book seems to be a summary of the life of the jewels' owner instead of the written story of the jewels. A lot of illustrations of paintings, documents and buildings, but (in comparison) the book contains few photos of the jewels.
One example is the chapter dedicated to queen Isabella II of Spain. She had a big amount of jewels signed by Mellerio, but the author barely mentions three or four. Most pages of this chapted are dedicated to narrate her life. It would have been so great to see more sketches of her jewels of something more about her orders to the Parisian jewellers.
The two previous books of Vincent Meylan, Archives secrètes: Boucheron and Trésors et légendes de Van Cleef & Arpels were, to me at least, much better. Do you have the book about Mellerio? What do you think about the book?
Vincent Meylan is a great author and I expected more of Mellerio dits Meller: Joaillier des Reines.
