The French President is Grand Master of the Legion d´honneur, and it is natural for him to wear this in the most prominent place.
Also, as you say, the Garter and Legion are their respective country´s most important order, whereas the Bath is lover down the precedence.
--Previous Message-- : Thanks for posting these pictures Maridje. : The're great. : : One thing I did notice in the second picture : is that Pres. Pompadou wore his Legion : d'honneur Star above his Star of the Order : of the Bath. : : Prince Philip wore his Legion Star beside : his Garter Star. : : I wonder if this was done because these 2 : orders are of equal importance (i.e. both : highest in their respective lands) whereas : the Bath is a lesser order and takes : deference - or - did Philip wear them beside : each other as a courtesy to his host, that : is, perhaps in other circumstances he might : wear the Legion star below the Garter. : : Any thoughts? Maybe I am reading too much : into this !!?! : : Cheers! : Bryce : : --Previous Message-- : QEII wore the brooch since state visit to : France.Gala dinner, Opera Grand Trianon : Versailles.
