Queen Elizabeth II is currently in Scotland for her traditional "Holyrood week" (as every year in the beginning of July).
Today (July 3rd), a service for the Most Ancient and Noble Order of the Thistle took place in Saint-Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh, in presence of The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of Cambridge (known in Scotland as the Earl of Strathearn) and the Princess Royal - all dressed, as required, in the green robes of the Order. Two new knights have been installed in the Order : The Earl of Home and The Lord Smith of Kelvin.
The Queen wore Queen Mary's ruby and diamond earrings (a present to Queen Mary from her husband George V for her 59th birthday in 1926). The red of the rubies might not be the best match with the green of the Thistle robes (IMHO) - but anyway, the size and the intense red of the rubies are always impressive!
I can not see if the Queen is wearing a necklace under her robes. Does anyone have better pictures?
Princess Anne does not seem to be wearing major jewels.
