The month of June 2014 was an unusually glittering month, during which Queen Elizabeth II dazzled us with a bunch of brooches which she had until then never worn, or worn only once: -State visit to France and D-Day 70th anniversary: Botswana Flower Brooch, Multicolour Diamond Floral Spray, Queen Victoria’s Fringe Brooch, Queen-Mother Elizabeth’s Ruby Spray Brooch -Royal Ascot week: Two Swans Baroque Pearl Brooch, Queen-Mother Elizabeth’s Aquamarine Art Déco Brooch, Multicolour Diamond Floral Spray, Saskatchewan Tourmaline Brooch -visit to Northern Ireland: Queen Alexandra’s Pearl and Diamond Brooch (from her wedding gift parure) and Bronte Porcelain Snow-Drop Brooch. Since her return from Northern Ireland, Her Majesty seems to have returned to a “business as usual” policy in her selection of brooches, as she has worn in the past days only brooches she has been frequently seen with: June 30, 2014: Edinburgh, Ceremony of the Keys – Badge of the Royal Regiment of Scotland: July 1st, 2014: Palace of Holyroodhouse, audience with the Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond and the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament Tricia Marwick – Rhodesian Flame Lily Brooch (presented to the then Princess Elizabeth as a 21st birthday present by the schoolchildren of Southern Rhodesia in 1947 – unless it is the identical brooch presented to Queen-Mother Elizabeth in 1953 and inherited by Queen Elizabeth II after her mother’s death in 2002): July 1st, 2014: Palace of Holyroodhouse, garden party – Cartier Aquamarine Clips (presented to the then Princess Elizabeth by her parents as an 18th birthday present in 1944): July 2, 2014: Visit to Glasgow Velodrome and to Dumfries House – Pearl and Diamond Trefoil Brooch (is the origin of this brooch known?): July 3, 2014: Edinburgh Castle, commemorative service at the Scottish National War Memorial – Six-Petal Flower Brooch (possibly an engagement gift, as Princess Elizabeth wore it in 1947 for her engagement to Prince Philip): I find it surprising that Her Majesty has not taken the opportunity of this Holyrood week to wear one of her thistle-motive brooches. Well, may be tomorrow? (pictures source: Zimbio, Daily Mail)
