It is remarkable, though, that Queen Mary wore almost only jewels made of precious stones (diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and, more scarcely, rubies) and pearls, but almost never jewels made of semi-precious or fine stones (aquamarines, amethysts, turquoises...). I only remember of a single photo portrait of a young Queen (probably then still Princess) Mary with an amethyst parure (which was later auctioned off) and of a photo of an equally young Queen (Princess) Mary wearing the beautiful turquoise and diamond parure presented to her as wedding gift by her parents, and that she later presented as a wedding gift to the Duchess of Gloucester.
