Well, even semi-precious stones or fines stones can be mounted on parures of the highest quality! When I see the Swedish amethyst and diamond parure (from Empress Josephine of the French) or the Duchess of Gloucester's turquoise and diamond parure (from the Duke and Duchess of Teck), I consider them to be of "top one quality"!
If I were a girl and had such jewels at my disposal, I would be delighted to alternate my semi-precious stones (amethysts, turquoise, aquamarines, peridots...) with my precious stones (diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires) and my pearls!
