The angle at which the tiara is placed does seem odd, and lends credence to Nellie's theory that the photo is a montage, even though we know that this tiara belonged to Queen Mary. Of course, it is possible that Queen Mary was in mourning but, even so, the position of the tiara seems odd and not in keeping with HM's usual way of wearing tiaras.

: This looks to me like the Amethyst tiara
    : later
: sold by The Queen Mother. Thank you for an

: There is a photo that has been posted here

: It is remarkable, though, that Queen Mary
    : wore
: almost only jewels made of precious stones
: (diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and, more
: scarcely, rubies) and pearls, but almost
: never jewels made of semi-precious or fine
    : stones (aquamarines, amethysts,
: turquoises...). I only remember of a single
: photo portrait of a young Queen (probably
: then still Princess) Mary with an amethyst
: parure (which was later auctioned off) and
: of a photo of an equally young Queen
: (Princess) Mary wearing the beautiful
: turquoise and diamond parure presented to
: her as wedding gift by her parents, and that
: she later presented as a wedding gift to the
    : Duchess of Gloucester.

: Thank you Joye. We are learning so much

: A ruby brooch and ruby pendant were left to
: Queen Mary by Sophie de Torby wife of Grand
    : Duke Michael.
: Is there any knowledge about these pieces?
