I have noticed it on a few other occasions:

During President Obama's 2012 state visit, we never were able to sort out this tangle of emeralds and diamonds.

HM wore a sapphire ring on the same finger as her wedding and engagement rings at the 2006 Royal Windsor Horse Show.

At the ballet to celebrate the Queen Mother's 101st birthday, a diamond ring was worn above the engagement ring.
